Tackle bindweed early
If you have a problem with hedge bindweed (Calystegia sepium) in your borders, tackle the problem now - its young shoots won't emerge for at least a month, but you can dig down now while other plants are still coming out of dormancy and remove as much of the pernicious fleshy roots as you can. You may have to dig deep!
