This course is essential for anyone who uses a multi tool in a professional capacity (as part of their normal duties). For example, a grounds maintenance operative or gardener.

What will I study?

You will study the underpinning knowledge essential for correctly maintaining and safely operating a multi tool and its attachments and receive tuition in how to maintain and safely operate a multi tool and its attachments.

What is covered?

The following areas are covered during the course:

One from group 1.

Prepare a petrol power unit in multi-tool equipment

·       Hazards and risks associated with the working area and proposed work

·       Emergency planning procedures relevant to the area

·       Health and safety legislation, and good practice

·       Tools equipment and personal protective equipment  

·       Work in a way which maintains health and safety and is consistent with relevant legislation and industry good practice

·       Why safety features are fitted on a multi tool

·       Check all features on a multi tool

·       Function and maintenance of the individual components

·       Inspection and maintenance of the multi tool power unit

·       Dispose of waste in line with legislation

·       How environmental damage can be minimised

·       Fuelling the machine

·       Carry out work to minimise environmental damage

 

Or

Prepare a battery power unit in multi-tool equipment

·       Hazards and risks associated with the working area and proposed work

·       Emergency planning procedures relevant to the area

·       Health and safety legislation, and good practice

·       Tools equipment and personal protective equipment  

·       Work in a way which maintains health and safety and is consistent with relevant legislation and industry good practice

·       Why safety features are fitted on a multi tool

·       Check all safety feature on a multi tool

·       Function and maintenance of the individual components

·       Inspection and maintenance of the multi tool power unit

·       Requirements of battery storage

·       Battery disposal requirements

·       Dispose of waste in line with legislation

·       How environmental damage can be minimised

·       Installing a battery to machine

·       Carry out work to minimise environmental damage

Operating a brush cutter / trimmer attachment

Operating a pole pruner

Operating a hedge cutter attachment

Operating a leaf blower attachment

 

There are eight ‘endorsements’ for this qualification:

928 Battery powered brush cutter / trimmer

929 Petrol powered brush cutter / trimmer

930 Battery powered pole pruner

931 Petrol powered pole pruner

932 Battery powered hedge cutter

933 Petrol powered hedge cutter

934 Battery powered leaf blower

935 Petrol powered leaf blower

 

Note: It is important to also tell us which endorsement is required. Unless we are informed otherwise, we will assume that candidates require training for a petrol multi tool  and they will be registered as such. If this is not the case, please notify us at the time of booking your course.

How is it delivered and assessed?

This qualification can be examined by the Trainer who delivered the training. Small groups can be trained and assessed in one day, larger groups trained on day one and assessed on another mutually convenient date. Assessment can take 1.5 – 3.00 hours and will always be at the venue at which you trained.

 

What qualification will I get?

You will receive a City & Guilds NPTC Certificate of Competence in Multi Tool Equipment. Note this is issued directly by City & Guilds NPTC.

What is the cost and venue(s)?

Option 1 – Integrated Assessment (Assessment is carried out by the person who trained you)

Training and assessment are £150.00 per candidate, registration through CEPT is £ 27.00 and certification with City & Guilds NPTC is £35.00 total payable £284.00

We have a very high success rate in preparing candidates for assessment, to date we have achieved 100% success!

Please note we supply trainees with all items of PPE for this course (with the exception of safety footwear, which must be supplied by the trainee/candidate).

What can I do after completing this course?

You can go on to undertake training in a variety of Certificates of Competence applicable to your role. For example:
