This course is essential for all those involved in any form of manual handling involving objects within any of the industries in the land-based Sector.

What will I study?

You will study the underpinning knowledge essential for safe lifting and practise lifting and moving a selection of items, on your own and with other people.

What is covered?

The following areas are covered during the course:

  • Understand the reasons for safe manual handling in the workplace
  • Know how to manage the possible risks involved in manual handling
  • Be able to carry out safe manual handling techniques
  • Be able to select and use appropriate mechanical manual handling aids

How is it delivered and assessed?

This qualification is examined by the Trainer who delivered the training. Small groups can be trained and assessed in one day, larger groups trained on day one and assessed on another mutually convenient date.

What qualification will I get?

You will receive a City & Guilds NPTC Certificate in Level 2 Award in The Safe Manual Handling of Objects. Note this is issued directly by City & Guilds NPTC.

What is the cost and venue(s)?

Training and assessment is £150.00 per candidate, registration through CEPT is £ 27.00 and certification with City & Guilds NPTC is £35.00 total payable is £ 284.00 (No VAT)

You can go on to undertake training in a variety of Certificates of Competence applicable to your role. For example:

If you work as a garden maintenance operative (gardener), the following might be useful:

  • Safe application of pesticides (Pa1)
  • Hand held applicators (Pa6)
  • Occasional chainsaw user
  • Brushcutter/strimmer
  • Hand held hedge trimmer
  • Pedestrian mower
  • Leaf blower/vacuum
  • Amenity shredder
  • Ride on mowers
  • Compact tractors

If you work as a landscaper, the following might be useful:

  • Manual handling
  • Safe application of pesticides (Pa1)
  • Hand held applicators (Pa6)
  • Occasional chainsaw user
  • Brushcutter/strimmer
  • Plant machinery 360 degree excavator
  • Dumper
  • Abrasive wheel machine
