Enrol for this course

This course is essential for anyone who uses a brushcutter/trimmer in a professional capacity (as part of their normal duties). For example, a grounds maintenance operative or gardener.

What will I study?

You will study the underpinning knowledge essential for correctly maintaining and safely operating a brushcutter/trimmer and receive tuition in how to maintain and safely operate a brushcutter/trimmer.

The following areas are covered during the course:

  • Know how to carry out a risk assessment
  • Know the health and safety legislation that underpins trimmer and brushcutter operations
  • Know the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for trimmer and brushcutter operations
  • Know the health and safety features of the equipment being used
  • Know how to maintain the trimmer / brushcutter
  • Know how to operate a trimmer / brushcutter
  • Understand different operating techniques
  • Know how to store equipment safely and appropriately

There are two ‘endorsements’ for this qualification:

001 Trimmer

002 Brushcutter

Note: Unless we are informed otherwise, we will assume that candidates require training for both a brushcutter and trimmer and will be registered as such. If this is not the case please notify us at the time of booking your course.

How is it delivered and assessed?

  1. (Integrated) This qualification can be examined by the Trainer who delivered the training. Small groups can be trained and assessed in one day, larger groups trained on day one and assessed on another mutually convenient date. Assessment can take 1.5 – 3.00 hours and will always be at the venue at which you trained.
  2. (Independent) This qualification can be examined by an Independent City & Guilds NPTC Assessor after training has been completed at a mutually convenient date. In most instances (subject to Assessor availability) we can arrange assessment directly after training. Assessment can take 1.5 - 3.0 hours and will always be at the venue at which you trained.

If you are not sure about which option to choose, we recommend option 1, it provides the learner with continuity in respect of both training and assessment and is less expensive.

What qualification will I get?

You will receive a City & Guilds NPTC L2 Award in the Safe Use of Brushcutters and Trimmers. Note this is issued directly by City & Guilds NPTC.
