Keep an eye on early apples

Early season apples, ripening in August and September, are swelling now and putting a lot of weight on branches.  This young  tree (probably Laxton's Fortune) has too many apples on a slender branch, which has twisted and nearly broken. Propping and tying it should prevent any more damage and allow the sap to keep flowing, then the fruit can be thinned to lift some of the weight.
