Bergenia cordifolia

Bergenia or 'Elephant's Ears' is one of those perennials which looks excellent when growing well, and miserably straggly when unhappy. The rounded green leaves are often tinted purple-red by cold, giving it interest even in winter. It does need moist soil in the summer - it is too dry, it won't set flowers for the next season.
