Greater Periwinkle is a very robust groundcover plant which is useful for stabilising shady banks with its mat of roots.The long stems with shiny everygreen foliage will root at each node, but it can be kept in check easily with a strimmer to form a neat carpet of growth dotted with periwinkle blue flowers. Take care not to let it get out of control, as it is 'vigorous' enough to pull apart dry stone or flint walls if it sprawls over them.
