Monterey Cypress is an evergreen conifer native to California, but grown here for its conical young growth; the feathery golden foliage is useful in winter containers and bedding schemes. It will eventually grow to 10 metres in the garden, with free-draining soil and shelter from cold drying winds, but will take 20 years to do so - generally it is thought of as a 'disposable' bedding  plant.
