Look out for more Dead Men's Fingers

The fruiting bodies of the fungus Xylaria polymorpha do look rather like fingers reaching up from the ground at the base of a dead tree stump. The fungus isn't edible, but it does have an important function in breaking down woody materials to recycle nutrients.
