Recognise Humming-bird Hawkmoths
27th August 2021
The hummingbird hawkmoth is one of the most distinctive day-flying moths which generally migrates here in summer from Southern Europe. It hovers like a hummingbird as it feeds on the nectar of honeysuckle, red valerian and other tubular flowers with its long proboscis. It can also be found along woodland edges, and on heathland and scrub.
