This species flowers slightly later than A. x grandiflora  and the flowers are rather more tightly packed along the stems.  It was first  suggested that Abelia should be transferred to the genus Linnaea in 1872, although this move was not widely accepted by botanists until 2013, and is only now filtering through to a wider horticultural public...
