This course is essential for anyone who uses dumper trucks in a professional capacity (as part of their normal duties). For example, a landscaper.

What will I study?

 You will study the underpinning knowledge essential for correctly maintaining a dumper truck and receive tuition in how to maintain and safely operate a dumper truck.

What is covered?

 The following areas are covered during the course in two units:  

Unit 1. Pre-Use Safety - Dumper Trucks

  1. Demonstrate Knowledge of legal and safety requirements relating to the use of dumper trucks in the context of;
  2. Check the site for hazards
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of the potential hazards that could arise when using a dumper truck
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of economic fuel use whilst maintaining efficiency and work output
  5. Identify and explain the function of all controls
  6. Interpret instrument readings
  7. Carry out daily maintenance and pre-use checks to the dumper truck
  8. Demonstrate knowledge of the dangers when operating a dumper truck without a seat belt

Unit 2. Operate the Dumper Truck

  1. Mount the vehicle and carry out safety checks and start/engine
  2. Check that brakes and ensure the vehicle is safe to use
  3. Drive dumper truck to a given position, park, check parking brake, and stop engine
  4. Move the machine to working area
  5. Ensure dumper truck is in a suitable position to receive loads
  6. Travel to the unloading site
  7. Tip in a specified area
  8. Park dumper truck
  9. Demonstrate knowledge of factors to be considered when cleaning dumper trucks and the reasons for cleaning
  10. Demonstrate knowledge of the need to inspect dumper truck after use.

Certificate Endorsement

The Certificate will be endorsed according to the load capacity of dumper truck used for the assessment.

Either

 a) Less Than 10 Tons

Or

 b) More Than 10 Tons


Please note: We need to be informed before registration to ensure that the candidate is registered for the correct assessment.

How is it delivered and assessed?

This qualification is examined by an Independent City & Guilds NPTC Assessor after training has been completed at a mutually convenient date. In most instances (subject to Assessor availability) we can arrange assessment directly after training. Assessment can take 1.5 - 3.0 hours and will always be at the venue at which you trained.

What qualification will I get?

You will receive a City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Certificate of Competence in the Safe Operation of Dumper Trucks and endorsed with the capacity of the machine used for assessment. Note this is issued directly by City & Guilds NPTC.

What is the cost and venue(s)?

Training is £175.00 per candidate, registration through CEPT is £ 27.00 and certification with City & Guilds NPTC is £35.00, assessment by a City & Guilds Independent Assessor is £77 total payable £314.00

We have a very high success rate in preparing candidates for assessment, to date we have achieved 100% success!

Please note we supply trainees with all items of PPE for this course (with the exception of safety footwear, which must be supplied by the trainee/candidate).

What can I do after completing this course?

You can go on to undertake training in a variety of Certificates of Competence applicable to your role. For example:

If you work as a landscaper, the following might be useful:
