To deter the pigeons from finishing off beans, a couple of dozen surplus CDs have been strung across from the fence to the bean poles - the idea is that as they twist in the wind and catch the light they will discourage the birds from landing. Possibly they will be put off by 1980s power ballads and The Stranglers.
