Hamamelis x intermedia 'Diane'
This is one of the earliest witch hazels to bloom, with spidery rich red flowers - if you grow 'Diane' in a container, position it against a pale background so that the flowers will be clearly visible. You may also need to pick off any dead leaves , as they tend to hang on to the plant into the spring.
