Plant names are constantly being revised

New Year, new names: in the APG classification which RBG Kew accepts, the genus Dracaena has now swallowed up two others, one of which is Sansevieria. So, our Snakeplant is more closely related to the Dragon Tree than was previously thought, and is now Dracaena trifasciata, and even more confusingly Sansevieria cylindrica (African Spear) becomes Dracaena angolensis, whether or not it has been dipped in glitter for Christmas or tied into plaits.
