Streptocarpus ionanthus

Streptocarpus ionanthus

The African Violet was formerly Saintpaulia ionantha, but has been reclasified and renamed. The rosettes of evergreen leaves are hairy and also fleshy, breaking off at the lightest knock -  you can use  these broken leaves for propagation if you have an interesting specimen.  Plant breeders are developing double flowers, miniature forms and even a really appalling one with leaf variegation, but the most striking one is generally the white-flowered form.
