Traditional Christmas trees are Picea abies, but increasingly the Nordmann or Caucasian Fir is taking its place because it holds onto its needles for longer. If you buy a pot-grown tree, be careful about planting it out as it can grow to 20m; but it you plan to dig it up each year to bring indoors, this will keep it in check quite effectively!
