Laurus nobilis
This is the sweet bay, used for laurel wreathes for victors, rather than the evergreen Prunus used for rather dull hedging. The leaves were reputed to have been chewed by the priestess of Delphic Oracle to put her in a prophetic trance; nowadays they are generally used in bouquet garni instead.
