Clean up early spring perennials

Early perennials like Lathryus vernus and Epimedium x rubrum will be flowering sooner than you think - clean up last year's old leaves and stems now: it will be much harder to do this once the flower buds start to unfurl, and with most Epimediums the new flowers will remain hidden below the old evergreen foliage unless you cut it off.
