Sambucus nigra f. porphyrophylla

'Eva' is the cultivar name of the cut-leaved purple elder often sold under its trading name of BLACK LACE. If it is allowed to flower, the fragrant pinkish blossoms will be followed by tart but edible purple-black berries, no different from the common hedgerow elder fro making wines or preserves; it will rarely flower if it is coppiced hard for better foliage effects.
