Recognise teasel

This dimpled rosette of leaves can turn up in turf,  in borders or in rough ground  - it is the biennial teasel Dipsacus fullonum, a tall plant with seed heads which persist into winter, providing structural interest when other plants have died back; it provides food for birds, but the seeds are easily spread all over the garden.
