Allium sphaerocephalon

This late-flowering allium is a good companion for ornamental grasses, where its tall slender stems are lost and only the reddish-purple flowerheads stand out as a contrast. Its common name 'round-headed garlic' is misleading, flowerheads are oddly egg-shaped.
