Take care lifting potatoes

Be careful when you lift potatoes to put the fork in well to the side of your 'earthed up' trench, loosening the soil around the potato haulm gradually - don't dig straight into the middle or you will stab through the largest tubers. You are bound to hit one or two, but damaged tubers won't keep so try to minimise your casualties.
