You can direct sow sweetcorn, but most people sow it in modules and plant out in late May or early June for stronger plants. Plant it in blocks rather than rows - it is wind pollinated, with the male flowers high on the plant and the females lower down, and you will get better 'set' in the ears of corn if you maximise cross pollination between plants.
