Split siberian iris

When these clump-forming iris have been in place for a few years, they develop the characteristic 'doughnut' shape of many established perennials, with a dead centre of old material surrounded by a circle of young growth which actually flowers. If you split the clump after it has flowered (you will need two forks and a lot of effort if it is an old clump)  you can discard this centre and replant the sections to promote vigorous growth and more flowers once the sections settle in.
