Suckering can dominate a plant

Argyocytisus - the pineapple broom - is often grafted; laburnum is the rootstock used here, and it has suckered until there is almost no silvery broom foliage visible, only the plain green of the laburnum - and trailing yellow laburnum flowers, not upright broom flowers!
