Fagus sylvatica

Beech is the other forest tree whose juvenile form retains foliage through the winter, and so is widely grown as a formal hedge. The leaves are wavy-edged, glossy and in winter have a distinct coppery shine. Buds are distinctively long and pointed. Beech does not like to be waterlogged .
