 For much of the year the SilkTassel Bush  looks fairly drab, with an upright habit and wavy-edged dark evergreen  leaves which are often disfigured by fungal leaf spot. It's often planted as a wall shrub for shade, or even used around car parks: but for a month or more from February the hanging male catkins make it spectacular. The best cultivar is called 'James 'Roof', and the undervalued specimen which provides our ident material is in Waitrose car park in Wallingford...
