Salvia rosmarinus (formerly Rosmarinus officinalis)
The aromatic leaves of rosemary have many culinary uses, but scientific research now seems to indicate that its other association ('Here's rosemary, for remembrance') has some basis - essential oils have been shown to enhance short-term memory, and may have other beneficial effects. Although it was one of the plants originally given its botanical name by Linnaeus in the eighteenth century, more scientists have decided that its DNA places it in the Salvia genus.
