Most succulents have smooth, shiny leaves but some species of Kalanchoe have a dense layer of leaf hairs to conserve moisture; this Kalanchoe tomentosa from Madagascar has rust brown hairs at the edges of green or grey leaves. The common name is the Panda Plant or Velvet Leaf Kalanchoe, but it is usually sold as 'Chocolate Soldier'.
