Acanthus mollis

Acanthus mollis

Bears Breeches is a vigorous herbaceous plant with large, glossy dark green leaves, broad and lobed; it thrives in sun or partial shade and in most soils. In late summer the tall racemes of white flowers with dusky purple bracts reach about 1.5m.  Apart from its tenacity (if you dig it up and move it, it will grow back in the original spot from root fragments) its main drawback is susceptibility to powdery mildew.
