Most clematis species produce seeds with feathery 'tails' to help with dispersal, but some are more dramatic than others: C. tangutica and the early spring species such as C. Macropetala and C. alpina produce very striking seedheads with feathery silver strands , like the wild clematis 'Old Man's Beard' but much longer.
