Nandina domestica

Nandina or 'sacred bamboo' is an evergreen shrub named for its upright, bamboo-like growth habit; the young compound leaves are reddish-purple then turn a brilliant colour again in winter. Panicles of small white flowers are followed by red berries.The shrub can look a bit gaunt and leggy - there are dwarf forms like 'Firepower' with good leaf colour if you want a smaller plant.
