Fascicularia bicolor

This Chilean bromeliad is just about hardy in the UK, as long as it has good drainage and a sheltered spot; rosettes of thin leathery leaves with serrated edges are dark green until late summer when the central leaves turn red at the base and in warm years a cluster of blue flowers is produced.
