Stems don't always help with identification

Stem shape doesn't always help to identify plants absolutely, but it can give some clues within genera: Jasminum nudiflorum has square stems, other jasmines do not - and Clematis viticella and C.texensis  cultivars have square brown stems, whereas C. montana, alpina and macropetala cultivars have round, almost black stems .
