Pick fresh cobnuts

As the leaves begin to turn and next year's catkins are forming on shoots, this is the time of year when hazels in hedgerows - and in specially planted 'plats' or nutteries - produce crops of fresh cobnuts or filberts. Of course the nut weevil may have bored into them, and squirrels will steal them and bury them in borders where they will germinate unexpectedly, but you MAY find some fresh nuts to enjoy.
