Time to trim lavender

By now, lavender flowers have faded and can be trimmed back to tidy the bushes. Trim back the stems and cut a little way into this year's growth - about 2-3 cm - but not too far unless the bushes are already very straggly. Many English lavenders WILL take hard pruning, as long as you are careful to locate the tiny blue-grey buds at the base and trim above them.
