Galtonia candicans

The tall flower spikes of the Cape or summer hyacinth can reach 1.2m in a good year - the white waxy bells are very slightly fragrant too. The bulbs are hardy but better planted in late spring to give a vigorous autumn display than overwintered for a earlier but less effective summer show.
