Campsis radicans

Campsis radicans

The trumpet vine or trumpet creeper is native to the eastern United States   - it is a vigorous, deciduous shrub which can climb to 10m using aerial roots to cling  to warm, south-facing walls. It produces huge numbers of tendrils that grab onto every available surface, and eventually expand into heavy woody stems several centimetres thick. It is late into leaf in the spring, producing  bright green pinnate leaves and in late summer  showy orange-red trumpet-shaped flowers.
