Ipomoea batatas 'Blackie'

This ornamental form of the trailing sweet potato is grown more for its foliage than its lavender- pink trumpet flowers: the deeply lobed leaves are purple-black, and it makes an excellent foliage contrast in containers and baskets  but it is attractive to slugs and snails and this year has suffered badly from their attention.  The tubers can be lifted and stored to regrow next year, provided you have a rodent-proof storage  - after all, they are sweet potatoes.
