Recognise Persicaria maculosa

Persicaria maculosa or Redshank is an annual weed which can turn up on waste, cultivated and open ground - it is native to the UK and northern Europe. It is particularly common on moist, rich soils which are low in lime. It is important to control it before it seeds - the seeds can remain viable in soil for 45 years - but it is quite easy to hoe off or handweed it .
