Clematis viticella 'Venosa Violacea'

As the Latin cultivar name shows, this is an old variety of Clematis (from France, named in 1883) which was awarded the RHS AGM in 1995.   It is probably the largest-flowered of the viticellas, with large white tepals edged and veined in purple and dark purple anthers; it is an easy and trouble-free plant, scrambling through shrubs and flowering from July to September.
