Recognise cinnabar moth caterpillars

These boldly striped caterpillars are easy to spot in July and August as they chew their way through ragwort and groundsel   - both leaves and flowers - so you might consider them very helpful to your weeding! The colour warns predators that they are toxic to eat - they aren't harmful to humans like other caterpillars which have irritant hairs.
