Plant bamboo wisely (1)

Most bamboos are vigorous growers, so you need to take care where you plant them: they are monocots like grasses, growing upward from their base and not growing any thicker as they get older - if you think of an apple tree as a contrast, it makes new extension growth from last year's shoots at the same time as the trunk gets thicker. Because of this, if you cut a naturally tall bamboo down because it is too tall for the position in which you've planted it, it will just grow up again in the same way your lawn keeps on growing.
