Dierama pulcherrimum

Angel's Fishing Rod is the common name for this striking relative of the Iris, with tall wands of purple-pink bells carried above the strappy evergreen leaves. It thrives in dry sunny situations like gravel gardens, and will spread itself from seed, or you can save ripe seed and it will germinate well.  If you want the white or blue-mauve forms, you may have to look for the cultivars though.
