Sisyrinchium striatum

Some sisyrinchium are delicate alpines, but this is the BIG version, with strap-like coarse green leaves and spikes of soft cream flowers which open gradually along 60cm spikes in summer. Tolerating dry conditions and partial shade as well as sun, it is a useful plant but needs tidying after flowering as the foliage blackens and ages badly.
