Wood avens is a common European wildflower which bears an unfortunate resemblance to its cultivated relatives. Even if you don't have Geum cultivars growing in your garden, the strong healthy rosettes of leaf look very 'intended' in a border and can fool you into leaving it to produce its small yellow flower and shed more seeds.
