New nematode formulations are reaching the UK

A new formulation of biological control has reached the UK from Canada; NemaKnights 'Control for grubs, weevils and borers' is on garden centre shelves. The product claims a six-month shelf life without refrigeration, using encapsulated Steinernema nematodes which can be applied from the shakeable container onto affected lawn patches for chafer grubs, and onto soil and pots to control vine weevil larvae. You just need to water them in over a few days. It will be interesting to see how effective this encapsulation is: the company claims 'Traditional nematode formulations have been a successful but limited biocontrol for over 2 decades.
