Spring snow is less harmful than frost

A spring snowfall - though dramatic - does less damage to newly-emerged flowers than you might think; it can act almost as a blanket protecting blossom from further damage, and the amelanchier in full bloom bounced back after the snow thawed. Hard frost can do much more harm to plum and pear blossom which is now fully open  - the later, tight buds of apple are likely to survive.
