A soil thermometer can help with planting times

It used to be common to plant out potatoes on Good Friday but as the date for Easter moves every year, and the UK weather veers between mild spring and snow flurries this week, it can be difficult to decide if the time is right. If you have a soil thermometer, start planting earlies as soon as the soil temperature is above 8 degrees Celsius.
